Prime Minister’s Departure Statement ahead of his visit to Republic of South Africa

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Republic of South Africa from 21–23 November 2025 at the invitation of President Cyril Ramaphosa to attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, being held under South Africa’s Presidency.

This edition of the G20 Summit is particularly significant as it will be the first-ever G20 Summit hosted in Africa. India had played a key role in strengthening Africa’s representation during its own G20 Presidency in 2023, when the African Union was inducted as a permanent member of the grouping.

The Summit is expected to focus on major global issues, guided by this year’s theme “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability.” South Africa has continued the vision shaped during the previous Summits in New Delhi and Rio de Janeiro. India will present its perspective based on the principles of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

The Prime Minister will also participate in the 6th IBSA Summit, scheduled on the sidelines of the G20 meeting, and hold engagements with leaders of partner countries.

During the visit, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to address members of the Indian diaspora in South Africa, one of the largest Indian-origin communities globally.
